Both as scholar and as filmmaker Gerda Cammaer specializes in experimental and documentary film. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally including screenings in Toronto, Montreal, Victoria, Halifax, St. John’s, Ann Arbour, New York, Villa do Conde, and Figuera da Foz. Her PhD thesis (to be completed in 2009) about the so-called “death of film” includes a major film/video project that builds upon her passion for the materiality of film, film history, documentary and found footage. Her publications on documentary and experimental film include film reviews, journal articles and four exhibition catalogues such as “Collages and Bricolages: Artistic Audits and Creative Revisions of Mainstream Media in Recent Canadian Shorts” (Halifax: MSVU Art Gallery, 2005) and “Lipsett’s Legacy: Recollecting Collage Films from the NFB and CFMDC” (Halifax: AFCOOP, 2007).
