CFMDC's Distribution Services
CFMDC is artist-driven and dedicates itself to distributing films which operate not simply outside of the mainstream, but which are innovative and diverse in their origins and expressions.
Annually, films from CFMDC collection are previewed over 5,500 times, 800 films are rented to over 150 international festivals and exhibition venues and over 150 titles are sold to broadcasters and educational institutuions.
Distributing Your Film Through CFMDC
The first step is to download the film submission form (see attachment below). Fill it out and mail it to us along with a preview copy of your work and the requested information, so that CFMDC staff may assess distribution possibilities. This normally takes 4 to 8 weeks. What we are able to do for a given work greatly depends on the film and our client base. Once we have viewed a work, we will discuss a distribution strategy with you and you can then decide if you wish to place the film with us.
Q: If I place my work with CFMDC, can I continue to submit to festivals on my own?
A: CFMDC believes that artists should be paid for any public exhibition of their work, so we do not submit to festivals that do not pay artist fees. However, there may be reasons that you want to submit to festivals that don't or cannot pay rental fees. If you do so, we ask that you list CFMDC as your distributor and keep us informed of any screenings.
Q: Can you send me a list of which festivals you will be submitting my work to?
The CFMDC Resource Centre is available for use by members by appointment during office hours. The Resource Centre has a DVD and VHS viewing station, an iMac computer, a scanner for slides and stills, a library of film-related books and magazines, and files on festivals and arts organizations.
Our 16-seat screening room is available for use by members to check answer prints or for rental for cast-and-crew screenings, media previews and events. Screening formats are 16mm, multi-standard VHS and multi-standard DVD. By appointment only.
